What is your style when you check your emails?
Do you have your Outlook set on Auto every 1 minute?
DO you just check your email, but seem to lag on responding back to others on your team? Do you have the classic “what if I need it again for the future approach” and then save everything?
Checking email at specific times (discipline has to start somewhere) is stopping the habit of treating email like nibbling on a bag of potato chips throughout the day – hard to put down until the last bite – and beginning to focus on higher leverage tasks instead of the constant noise of the inbox, which chimes every time something comes in.
For instance what I have done for a long time now was to only check my email at 10a and then 4p daily. Then I had put a few other processes in place to let people know of the times I was checking my email, and if things were rather urgent or pressing they were advised to call me directly.
